i remember having profound spiritual experiences when i first started attending the 1-day retreats with Paul Jensen's class, and then again when i began regularly attending our spiritual direction group of ministers with Alan. after just a few retreats, the profound experiences stopped and i was rather agitated by that and even kind of depressed about it. i remember talking to you (Alan) about that. but i kept attending, looking for those experiences to come back. over time, however, i started to just appreciate the open time with the Lord; my spirit seemed to have the space to breathe for a change. and that became enough. my goals and my desires for the retreats changed, and i wanted to be there just for the sake of being there. the real trick, of course, is getting to the place where ANY window of time opens the channels for rest and restoration. alas. i need more practice.
